Rosettes ready for claiming by the winners

Mariëtte Venter and her amazing team of helpers from our guild have finished making the rosettes for the winners of the quilts entered for the 17th National Quilt Festival.

Unfortunately....... she is only prepared to share the box containing these rosettes with us, so I can’t show you more.

Knowing Mariëtte though, I can guarantee you that you will be just as chuffed with your rosette as with the fact that your entry won a prize.

Good luck, to those who have entered!!

Motifs, background quilting and border patterns – Marié du Toit

Class 103 – Page 32 - Monday & Tuesday, 1 & 2 July 2013 – Two Days

A quilter for 30 years already, Marié will teach you to try your hand at different free motion quilting patterns without marking your fabric as well as how to adapt these patterns for use on borders around a quilt.  Finish your practice stitching into a pillow cover to show off.

WARNING:  There are ONLY 2 spaces left in this class!!

Should you need more information or simply feel our photos do not live up to your standards, feel free to contact Marié at:

Solving Solubles – Griet Lombard

Class 102 – Page 16 – Monday & Tuesday, 1 & 2 July 2013 – Two Days

A founder member of our very own Oranje Quilters’ Guild, Griet moved to New Zealand in 2008.  She returns to share some of her wisdom with us.

In this class you can experience the magic of discovering the lace you have created when dissolving the fabric.  Not only will the student learn to work with water soluble fabric but also how to use your newly created lace with confidence.

Should you need more information or simply feel our photos do not live up to your standards, feel free to contact Griet at:

The Bears Come out at Night - Maggie Ball

Class 101 – Page 26 - Monday, 1 July 2013 - Full day

This charming crib quilt or wall hanging features Saw Tooth Star Bear Paw blocks set with three sizes of Ohio Stars.

Emphasis will be placed on precise piecing (don’t we all need more of that?) and you’ll learn how to make your triangles accurate and pristine.  Now you can trust Maggie on this; as the author of 4 books, teaching throughout the USA, UK, Mongolia and South Africa she should know all about accuracy and having those triangles perfectly pieced.

Should you need more information or simply feel our photos do not live up to your standards, feel free to contact Maggie at:

Focussing on individual classes at the 2013 Quilt Festival

For the next couple of posts I am going to focus on individual classes from our Festival Program.

These will NOT be in any particular order and the reason for this is to give you the reader time to take a moment and focus on just one class.  I know whenever I get a new festival program I’m flabbergasted for a week or more, not knowing what to choose, where to start and what to book.  It also happened that the picture of the class did not appeal to me, I overlooked it, did not take the time to read the techniques involved; then ended up hearing from everyone who did the class, how wonderful it has been or how much new stuff they've learned.

So watch this space daily, share on your FACEBOOK and reconsider booking for a class you might have missed or overlooked initially.

Winners at the 2013 Bloem Show

Iessie Steenberg, the coordinator of our festival, you should now know, is everywhere and helps with most everything, so I was not too surprised when I got this neatly typed summary of the Bloem Show winners in quilting from her.  Unfortunately in copying these columns, it seems the last column goes off the center page.  I however think it is more important to see the category, winner and position  Thank you very much Iessie and congratulations to ALL our winners.
