Time to prepare for The annual Bloem Show

This year the theme of the Bloem Show is Bloemen Leka – sounds interesting doesn't it?

Now for the braver amongst us, why not design a quilt with this theme in mind.  We are all aware of the unspoken (darn and here I talk about it!!) competition between groups about which group will enter the most quilts.  So be the instigator in your group and get those creative juices flowing or simply just enter those quilts you've finished this year!

This year the Bloem Show will be held from 24 April until 3 May but you do realize the quilts have to be entered and handed it at a much earlier date.

Crochet Course by Doortjie Gersbach

For all those ladies who can manage both quilting and crochet, we did not forget about you.  

Again Doortjie is the teacher that can do both and she’ll be showing you how to crochet a Barberton Daisy.

Date:  3 May 2014 (Saturday)

Cost:  R240 per person

Place:  NG Church, Strauss Street, Universitas, Bloemfontein

Tea and coffee will be supplied but you’ll have to bring your own cup and lunch for the day.

2 Day Quilt Course by Doortjie Gersbach

Ah something to look forward to this year.  

Doortjie will be teaching for 2 days in Bloemfontein, so organize the family, get your gear oiled and make a plan to attend this course.  Remember we will only get teachers to visit us if we support them well.  Make it worth her while.

Date:  1 & 2 May 2014 (Thursday and Friday)

Cost:  R480 per person (for both days)

Quarterly Challenges for 2014

Now that you’ve all (hopefully???) marked the dates of our quarterly guild meetings, it is time to look at the challenges for each term.

The challenges for the respective quarterly meetings are:

February 2014:  My holiday quilt

Now this does not have to depict the sea, ocean, nature reserve, mountain trail where you actually went on holiday but the quilt you've been working on during the holiday, therefore even a completed UFO can be entered.

May 2014:  Each group has been given remnant fabrics from which they should make a lap quilt.  I am sure your group can add some of your own fabric as well.  These will be given to the Old Age Home in De Wetsdorp.

August 2014:  Any quilted item (tray cloth, pillow cover, quilt, wall hanging) showing off 3-D flowers.  This technique will be demonstrated at the May quarterly meeting.

November 2014:  Any quilted item where Celtic work is displayed.  This technique will be demonstrated at the August quarterly meeting.

Now by the looks of this, one dare not miss a meeting or you’ll be missing out big time!
