2012 Final quarterly meeting - Part 5

Finally it was time to start with our workshops and each instructor showed what her group would be doing.

Pretty soon everyone was hard at work and what a pleasant meeting this turned out to be.  Thank you Needles and Pins.

2012 Final quarterly meeting - Part 4

I think more than just me was thrown by the challenge, Scherenschnitte (and I do believe I misspell this word every time I type it!) as we had very few entries.

We did however have a worthy winner in Sonja Greyling (from Kimberley and a SECOND win for her) with this 3-D version.

The vierwers' choice for all the quilts on display went to Iessie Steenberg with her alternative version of a Baby Jane.  Anina Louw came second with this whole cloth quilt.  Congratulations ladies!

2012 Final quarterly meeting - Part 3

We had a couple of lovely quilts on display and if anyone went home without new inspiration they have a serious problem.  How can one not be inspired after seeing all of these?

2012 Final quarterly meeting - Part 2

A quilt meeting would just not be the same without our regular vendors who has it the hardest packing in, out and up but we do appreciate the trouble they go through.

Then we had two very special ladies at the meeting and as a rule I don't do congratulations on the blog but Linda who just seems to be everywhere and help with everything had her actual birthday today and still chose to attend the meeting to do her bit.  Congratulations Linda and I am sorry for the bad photo but we know you are pretty - eyes closed or not!

The other special lady is Ninor who turned a whopping 80 this year.  Ninor is known as our FFUFO (finally finished UFO) lady.  I hope you had a splendid day Ninor!

2012 Final quarterly meeting - Part 1

I deliberately choose to split the meeting posts into parts; if I don't it would be one massive extremely photo rich post.  So for those who doesn't like this, my sincerest apologies but I am keeping it this way.

This meeting was hosted by the Needles and Pins and how can I not mention the group with the most quilts entered at this years' Bloem Show (it was brought under our attention SEVERAL times) and as with the show, they did not disappoint.

We've been sent e-mails to ask if we would dress in blue and white and upon arrival it soon became clear why.

Even at the entrance where we paid R30 for a kit to participate in a secret workshop, the ticket with your table and seat number was blue as well.  Here Iessie (festival coordinator) is selling tickets.

My ticket at table 3, seat number 3 and what do you know, 33 - my exact age! (wishful thinking).

I dearly apologize

In my post over HERE I made a terrible mistake in that I gave the wrong person credit for winning the challenge for the third term.  I am TERRIBLY SORRY.

Sonja Greyling all the way from Kimberley luckily reads our blog and realized that she worked so hard and I never even credited her.  Sonja, congratulations and again my sincerest apologies.  Sonja then also sent me a much nicer picture of her winning challenge quilt for all of us to take a good look at.

I too would be upset if I made something this special and the stupid blog writer got her facts wrong!!

Third quarterly meeting - The challenge

At our National Quilt Day at the Freshfordhouse Museum on 24 March we all got a free 'Welcome' pattern designed by Mari Strydom and seeing that a demonstration on how to complete the quilt was given on the day, this was set as our challenge for the third term.

This is what Mari's example looked like.

I am glad to report that a couple of ladies took on this challenge and how interesting to see how a different color can almost totally change the look of the exact same pattern.  Here a couple of entries can be seen.

Again the attendees on the meeting could vote for their favorite and the winner of this term's challenge was none other than the winner of the second most votes for Show and Tell, Anina Louw SONJA GREYLING from Kimberley, with her version of this quilt. (My apologies for this terrible mistake Sonja!!)

So for the last term ladies the challenge is Scherenscnitte or then paper cutting but we won't be using paper but fabric.  I can't wait to see what will be on show!
