Op-Art Kaleidoscope Quilts – Maggie Ball

Construct this Op-Art Kaleidoscope quilt with Maggie in a surprisingly easy manner not having to use triangular rulers or templates.  Cut your wedges and kites with your ordinary straight ruler and start playing by mixing and matching these to assemble large Kaleidoscope blocks.

Fearless Feathers – Marié du Toit

This is an all about feathers free motion class.  Design and use your feathers for different spaces in your quilt, use background filler patterns to make your feathers pop and plan a feather border that will flow around the corners.

All of this and then Marié will still teach you to do bobbin drawing with thick metallic thread.

Corn Plaster Embroidery – Macky Cilliers

When Karin and I first read about this class we were dumbfounded..... fortunately we don’t need/use corn plasters yet, so we didn't really know what this was all about!  Now that we’re slightly more informed this sounds like fun.

Stitch mini blocks onto which you’ll then apply embroidery to later join to make a mini wall quilt.  Macky will guide you through the whole process.

Bag-A-Square – Marilyn Pretorius


Class 310 – Page 34 – Wednesday & Thursday, 3 & 4 July – 2 Days

This is an ideal project for using your scraps.  Squares are used as a design element and these are embellished using a variety of different methods such as couching of cords, stitches on your machine covering of plastic rings to name a few.

Your embellished squares can then be used to construct a bag and this will be demonstrated in the class.

Handmade Feathered Star – Marié du Toit

When I think handwork, I think time consuming but in this class Marié will teach you a quick and accurate method to speed this up. You will be making an 8-point star without a hole in the center with sharp points all meeting.  More than just one technique if I read this correctly.

Curvy Squares – Simone Schofield

The first thing you should notice is how much prettier the photo in this post looks compared to the one in our program.  Now don’t you just want to make this?


In this class you’ll be using a new technique that looks complicated but is really very easy.  Learn to make your own bias binding and different techniques in making applique fun.

Even though Simone has taught workshops on cruise ships, she’ll make sure you’ll have just as much fun doing this course in her classroom.

Lollie bag – Rita Cloete

In the last of these kiddies classes by Rita they’ll be making a Lollie Bag and it made me think what I had as a child.  For one not ever enough lollies to fill a bag but we did have a handful of mixed sweets in a rolled up newspaper.... ah how we've evolved.

Kleurvolle Kerkplein – Mari Claase

Translated this class means “Church square”

We all have drawers/boxes/tubs/containers filled with those smaller pieces of fabric that we simply never seem to work away.  Now this is where this class comes in handy.

Join Mari and get entangled in your scraps creating an ‘oil painting’ like centre for the church square and a ‘watercolour’ look for the background.

The Magic of Half Square Triangles

Gee whiz, listen to this!  According to Dominique Douat, a French monk, 8 triangles can be arranged in more than 256 ways to create a 4 patch block.  (Now watch me Google this when I’m done writing this post!)

Now I’m sure Louise won’t have time to go through all of these during her two day course but she promised to show you different ways in which you can create Half Square Triangles to create this lovely quilt showing you how to use contrast fabric to obtain a color-wash effect.
