Spring Day 12 October 2019

The Oranje Quilters Guild hosted a fun filled, informative and very successful day for all the members as well as guests.  From new vendors to delicious snacks prepared by Mariëtte Venter (the current Chair Person) as well as various demo's - there was something for everyone.  Not to forget the 20 or so boxes with gifts sponsored by the various Quilt Groups affiliated with the Guild.

Arriving at the venue, Sonja Stroebel and Adie Botha welcomed each.

Mariëtte opened the meeting

followed by Nelia Venter explaining the day's program.

First up was a demo by Christa Gouws demonstrating the Japanese cathedral window technique which can be done by hand or machine, whatever your preference.

Christa made this quilt by hand using the above mentioned technique.

The next demo was wool needle felting by Charlotte Naudé with this absolutely beautiful piece that she is still working on.

And then it was teatime with everybody treated by our own master baker, Mariëtte Venter

at tables decorated with various vintage sewing machines.

Last up was Nelia Venter demonstrating Robert Kaufman's very useful app, The Quilters Little Helper, that you can install on your smartphone via the Play Store for Android phones or the Apple App Store, making shopping for fabric that much easier.

Nelia also demonstrated how to incorporate stars into your quilt blocks with an easy technique..

A few quilts was on display.

A new vendor Liefielove visited us all the way from Mpumalanga with gorgeous Tilda fabrics.

as well as our local Elna dealer, Annamarie Wessels.

At every pause between the proceedings, Iessie Steenberg orchestrated Pick-a-box.

And with ample time to shop, the morning was concluded.
