Quilt Retreat

The Oranje Quilters Guild first quilt retreat was held the weekend of 2 to 4 June 2023.  As there was not enough attendees for a true weekend breakaway, day classes were held at the premises of the Central University of the Free State.

A traditional class was presented by Annie du Toit and an art quilt by Mari Strydom.

Over the 2 days the ladies had so much fun and new techniques were taught with Mari showing the ladies how to cut/shred the fabric into tiny, minute pieces.

To keep track of all the pieces, they are stored by color in different bags

before being placed on the basis fabric

according to the photo brought along.

Netting is then placed on top before all the layers are stitched together

to keep everything in its place for the free motion stitching.

Lunchtime was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present.

A successful weekend bonding over fabric and a common love for quilting.
