Lockdown Art Quilts 2020

Teacher Iessie Steenberg was busy teaching art quilts when Covid 19 and the lockdown struck.  But with technology at our disposal, the classes proceed via cellphones.  As you will see below from the photo's the beautiful collection of quilts made, 10 per person each using different elements, principles and techniques.

The collection was displayed at Oliewenhuis, a local art gallery during May and June with opening night the 22nd of May.  All attendees showed dutifully up wearing their masks, sanitizing at the door as well as having temperatures taken.

The first collection of Annelize Keeve displayed all 9 small quilts on the 10th bigger background.

All attendees was thoroughly surprised at the beautiful art work made by ordinary quilters, not big names or prize winners, showing that any quilter can create such extraordinary pieces.

General Meeting 22 May 2021

With most restrictions lifted and between waves of Covid 19, we were fortunate to be able to host a meeting for our loyal quilters.  The theme for the day was hexagons and what a fun filled morning it was with even the lucky draw questions centering around hexagons like where in nature do you find hexagons etc.

Everybody were greeted warm and friendly at the door and given a package containing all the essentials needed to make a handy hexagon embellished holder for all those bits and pieces lying around one's quilting space.

A hostess at each table from the Uile (Owls) group demonstrated to all members how to go about it with Annelize KeĆ©ve (group leader) giving assembly instructions at the end.  All attendees wore their masks the entire time and no refreshments were served to minimize contact as far as possible.

The members thoroughly enjoyed it and proudly displayed there stitched hexagons.

During show and tell a few gorgeous quilts were on display.

This twisted bargello was chosen as the winner.

A pattern for a cute little octopus was also handed out to be knitted or crocheted for babies in the neonatal unit to keep those little fingers away from all the pipes and drains.

After the meeting all attendees could take a little snack with for the road and what more suitable than a cookie shaped in the form of a hexagon.
