OQG member helps pupil after house burn down

Our first Outreach for the year was Batho primary school where one of the Quiltmakers, Nici Smit teach.

But on the 15th of May, tragedy strike one of the pupils she is teaching quilting skills to in the afternoon, when fire was set to their house.

Although they are poor and live in a shack, that is (or was) home to them.

At first Nici did not realize the extent of what happened until she saw Moleboheng using another pupil's books.  So, being very involved in her quilting group, Nici immediately decided to help the family to get back on their feet after visiting the burnt out shack.  With the help of donations from across the country, volunteers stepped in and build a new home for them.

Nici and the family are so grateful for all the help they received.  The biggest miracle being that the whole family was able to escape the inferno as well as the fact that they received everything needed in the correct quantities.

The family are extremely grateful to all involved and especially Nici for helping them to get back on their feet.  Nici's love for quilting and to share this with her pupils being instrumental.

Grateful mother Letsoara smiling big after all the heartache.
