My name is Hettie Pringle and I am a total quilt addict. Today I feel SO honored for being asked by our Guild to start and maintain this blog and I have every intention of keeping it full of interesting news, pictures, quilts and the most important people – our members and obviously quilters. Enough about me so allow me to start with a little background information.
The Guild was officially founded in 1989 at the 3rd National Quilt Festival which was held in Bloemfontein. Prior to that, the Bloemfontein Guild already existed and organized the National Festival of 1989. The South African Quilt Guild was founded at this festival. The name Oranje (translated as Orange) originates from the Province as it was then known as the Orange Free State and the vision was that the Guild would grow to include members throughout the Province, a dream which has been realized.
Current membership is 161 members and for 2011 the membership fees are R90,00 per annum. Visitors welcome at R30,00 per person per meeting. Meetings are held quarterly with quarterly newsletters sent to members.
The Oranje Guild is busy getting ready for the National Quilt Festival 2013 which will be held in Bloemfontein. More information to follow.
